The Trans theoretical Model is a model that is used for behavior change, and it has been used in a variety of health promotion organizations. The model is set up in a series of levels, which allow the individual progress at their own pace throughout the program. What has made the program so successful is that it can be adapted to the individual to meet their own needs.
The model was produced by James Prochaska, of the University of Rhone Island in 1977. He and his colleagues developed the model as a way of analyzing different stages of change when a person seeks to break away from old behaviors that have been harming them in the past. The original theory is in fact based upon the use of several of different theories; hence the name trans theoretical.
Currently, the trans theoretical model is being used in several personal and professional environments including hospitals, online programs, health promotion businesses, fortune 500 companies, addiction programs and more. The model has been shown effective in many of these environments, which increases its credibility for future use.
